International hotel manager returns to her roots

One of Cardiff’s leading city centre hotels has appointed a new general manager who, having gained experience in destinations across Europe, is returning to her native Wales.

Marie Fagan joins the Hilton Cardiff after working for the global hotel company in Rome and more recently as the general manager of Hilton Milan. Born in Merthyr Tydfil and raised in Llanelli, Marie has settled in Cardiff after securing her dream job at the city centre hotel.

The 41 year-old has realised her lifelong ambition of becoming general manager of Hilton Cardiff after starting her career as a waitress at Stradey Park hotel in Llanelli. She then went on to work in London for 10 years at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, the Waldorf hotel and The Cavendish before moving to Italy to work for the Hilton.

Marie said: “I aim to further enhance one of Cardiff’s best hotels in delivering superior service and customer satisfaction. It is undoubted that Cardiff is an up and coming city and I am very much looking forward to being at the heart of it all at the Hilton.

“I joined Hilton as it is the best international hotel company and offers terrific development opportunities for individuals with a passion to grow and learn.”

Looking after a team of 207 at the 197 bedroom hotel, operated by Hilton since 1999, Marie’s early focus will be looking to maintain the positive relationships with the local business community fostered by former general manager Mark Walker, who has moved on to manage Hilton Belfast and Hilton Templepatrick.
